Dr. Keeling's talk, entitled "Ruminations," reflects on her 30 years of teaching. In her first class as a doctoral student, she created "Stats Dairy," a fictional company where her students acted as "employees." Through her use of humor, in this case cow-themed elements (e.g., cow cashiers at an Ice Cream Shoppe and an office filled with cow decorations), she helped to alleviate the anxiety of students taking Statistics in a business school. Dr. Keeling explores the topics of humor, humility, and humanity in her teaching, scholarship, and administration.
Professor Keeling joined DU in September 2007 after spending eight years at Virginia Tech. She is currently an Associate Professor and the Department Chair of the Business Information & Analytics Department. She teaches courses in analytics modeling, programming, and text mining, and conducts research in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
